Are you looking for a good independent bookshop to visit in San Diego? If you are, keep on reading, for the bookshop I am going to talk about in today's post is one worth visiting! The century old bookstore is the oldest one in the country, and a very good one too. The employees are very helpful and courteous, and the store has new books like "Renegades" and "Spliced". Even though the store is known for books, you can also find art supplies, gifts, stationary, and office supplies. If you ever have questions, the staff is quite knowledgeable!

A Bit of History

Warwick's Bookstore has been around for a bit more than a century by now, and is the oldest bookstore of the country. It was founded in 1896 in Mankato, Minnesota by William T. Warwick. In 1916, Warwick's was moved to Waterloo, Iowa where it stayed until 1939, when W.T. moved to La Jolla and purchased Redding's from Genevieve Redding, whose husband had abruptly died in 1934. Later, W.T. married Genevieve. In 1944, W.T. moved the store to 1038 Wall Street, after a dispute with the owner of 7816 Girard, because of a 200% increase in rent. In 1950, W.T. retired and sold the store to his son, Charles. In 1952, Charles moved the store back to its original location. Since then, the store has been passed from generation to generation of the Warwick family.

Why Should I Visit?

Well, first of all, not only does it have really cool history, but it also has lots of books! Including the newest releases! The staff is really helpful, and if you are looking for a gift for a bookworm, especially with the holidays coming up, but you are tired of getting them books, they have really nice gifts, journals, art supplies, and stationary!

I hope this post helped you find a nice bookstore, where you can relax and browse the bookshelves!
