Do you ever listen to music that you think would go well with a book? If you do, here is a post that might help you find a playlist to listen to next time you read Divergent!

Divergent- Til The Stars Burn Blue by The Score (Sometimes, while listening to music, you have to interpret the meaning behind the words, that's what I did with this song, the lyrics talk about two people running away, but to me it sounded a lot like how Tris felt whenever she saw the Dauntles jumping off the train.) Something New by The Score (This song really makes me think, it reminds me of so many things that happened in Divergent, so I settled for how Tris must feel after learning that she is Divergent, and since that feeling stays with her basically throughout the book, it would make sense to put it as one of the songs that captures the whole of the book.)

Faction Playlist:

1) Abnegation- Help Me by Elvis Presley (I know, I know, it's a bit old school, but honestly, Abnegation was one of the hardest factions in this list. When I found this song, I wasn't entirely sure if it would really be a good choice for Abnegation, but I think it captures the way we feel when someone helps us, so really, it isn't all that bad of a pick.)

2) Amity- My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion (When I found this song, I absolutely fell in love with it, like Abnegation, Amity was pretty hard to work with, but then I heard this song, and I was like "If just hearing this song makes me fall in love with it, then I'm pretty sure this song describes Amity pretty well." So I chose this song for Amity. I feel like this song talks about how we feel after experiencing love so strong that we never forget about it.)

3) Candor- If We're Honest by Francesca Battistelli (This song really represents Candor, Francesca Battistelli sings about how if everyone would lower their walls, we would understand each other a lot more.)

4) Dauntless- Stronger by Kelly Clarkson (You have probably heard this song before, and if you have, you also probably know why I chose this one for Dauntless. This song is about getting back up, and to me, Dauntless means facing your fears and never giving up, so I think this song pretty much captures Dauntless.)

5) Erudite- Royals by Lorde (Okay, if I had to chose one faction that was literally impossible to find a song for, I would choose Erudite, who sings about knowledge? No idea. So I settled for the second thing they wanted the most, power, and to me, this song talks about being powerful.)

Character Playlist:

1) Tris- Fight Song by Rachel Platten (Honestly, Tris wasn't as easy as I thought she would be, yeah, I know what her personality is like, but to find a song that captures that personality isn't as easy, so I focused on things that Tris doesn't know about herself, I think Tris is a fighter, and to be a fighter, you have to get back up, no matter how hard the fall, and Tris almost always gets back up, yes, sometimes, she needs the help of her friends, but most of the time, she's a fighter, so I found this song perfect for her.) Invincible by Kelly Clarkson (After finding a song that captured her personality, I focused on a song that captured what Tris thought she needed to be to stay in Dauntless. Tris thought she needed to be invincible, she thought that if she showed weakness, she would not be accepted into Dauntless, but then she later finds out that being vulnerable, doesn't mean she's weak, it just means she's human.) Never Going Back by The Score (This song pretty much tells us how Tris feels after leaving Abnegation, she never wants to go back, she likes being Dauntless.)

2) Four- Hurt by Christina Aguilera (Four was also pretty hard, he was one of the last characters I worked on since I couldn't find a song that would match his character. But I think Hurt pretty much describes how Four must feel around chapters 26 through 28) Unstoppable by The Score (Honestly, I'm not sure why I thought this song matched Four, I just thought it fit him pretty well.) Tightrope by The Score (This song describes how I think Four must feel during the Ferris wheel scene.)

3) Christina- Brave by Sara Bareilles (I thought this song completely captured Christina, I mean, it really describes her personality, brave.)

4) Will- Watch Me by The Phantoms (Honestly, I think people don't pay enough attention to Will, which is why I chose the song Watch Me, the lyrics sort of made me think about what Will would say if he ever felt like being the center of attention.)

5) Al- Jealous by Labrinth (If you have read the book, you know why I chose this song, especially if you remember the end of chapter 19.)

6) Peter- Hate by Design by Killswitch Engage (Ugh, Peter, I don't think I need to say anything more.)

7) Eric- Feel Invincible by Skillet (Not only do the lyrics totally match Eric, but the beat does too, it's a rock song, and if Eric wasn't such a psycho, he would probably fit right in to a band like Metallica or Skillet.)

8) Caleb- On And On by The Score (Honestly, I think Caleb is a pretty confused character, so to me, choosing this song made sense, the lyrics of this song sort of remind of a very confused person, just going on with their life, but never really knowing why.)

9) Jeanine- Legend by The Score (Read the lyrics, if you know who Jeanine is, my choice of song will make perfect sense.)

I really hope you guys enjoyed reading this post. I had a lot of fun making it, though it took me a while to find songs that really match each character. Not only did I have fun, but I also discovered a few good bands and singers that I didn't know before, like The Score, or Francesca Batistelli. Maybe I'll end up writing posts like this one more often, that was a lot of fun! 🤷🏻‍♀️
